Health Insurance Spending-to-Income Ratio

State: Ohio
Measurement Period: 2024
This indicator shows the ratio between the average spending on health insurance among households that spent on health insurance and the median household income in the selected location. This includes spending on traditional fee-for-service health plans, preferred-provider health plans, health maintenance organizations (HMO's), commercial Medicare supplements, dental insurance, vision insurance, and other health insurance premiums.

Why is this important?

Individuals with health insurance are more likely to have a regular health care provider and receive routine health care or medications. Unaffordable health insurance may lead to individuals becoming uninsured or underinsured (Healthy People 2030). Spending on health insurance may also impact funds available for other basic needs such as housing, food, and transportation.
